I see an aura around monsters while fighting. Red, yellow, blue etc. highlights appear.

Do they mean anything?

The particular color does not mean anything. However, when the aura appears it means that that monster is attacking. Since only the first group of monsters can attack using a melee attack, if you see one of the groups in the back light up, it means that they can cast spells.
